Biography:
Initially (1970-1971), Ian studied Pharmacy course at the Victorian College of Pharmacy. He then completed tertiary qualifications in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics and Botany at RMIT. Ian then became interested in medical research and completed a BSc Hon. degree (Biochemistry), followed by a Doctorate into the Biochemistry of connective tissue, especially proteoglycans and collagen at Monash University. This study involved research into arthritis and ageing of cartilage. He then joined his father, Dr Glen Dettman at their family business, Oakleigh Pathology Service. Over the course of fifteen years he gained extensive hands-on experience in biochemistry, microbiology and haematology. In the latter years, Ian managed the pathology and helped it gain NATA accreditation. Ian became a Registered Pathology Practitioner of several stand alone Oakleigh Pathology Service laboratories including a branch at Knox Private Hospital. Between 1970-1988, Ian also became involved in Vitamin C research with Dr Glen Dettman and Dr Archie Kalokerinos. This research continues to this day. He personally developed patents concerning the manufacture of Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate) for injection. He also extended his knowledge of nutrition, diet and lifestyle by becoming qualified as a Natural Therapist, in which he has continued to practise over 30 years. Ian became a governor of the prestigious Southern School of Natural Therapies, where he sat on numerous committee meetings concerned with course content and natural therapies registration. Ian has lectured to many Doctors around the world including Japan, China, Singapore, New Zealand and South America and also lectures extensively throughout Australia. He has tutored in Biochemistry to medical students at Monash University, and lectured to students at the Southern School of Natural Therapies. He has co-authored numerous papers as well as the book Vitamin C - Nature’s Miraculous Healing Missile with his father Dr Glen Dettman, and Dr Archie Kalokerinos.
In 1970, along with his Father Dr Glen Dettman, they started the manufacture of injectable Vitamin C and EDTA, under the umbrella of Biological Therapies, in Melbourne, Australia and with Ian as Managing Director , Biological Therapies gained its sterile manufacturing licence from the TGA. In support of this manufacture, a research organisation, the DETKAL organisation was founded, which included the panel of Dr Glen Dettman, Dr Archie Kalokerinos, Dr Ian Dettman, Dr John Piesse, Dr Iggy Soosay, Dr Joe Goldbaum, Dr David Grunmann, Dr Michael O'Doherty and Dr Warren Hastings. DETKAL was organised to support the ongoing works of Dr Glen Dettman and Dr Archie Kalokerinos, further supported by the panel members, in the use of injectable Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate) for many medical conditions. DETKAL also helped support the treatment of drug addicted people under the guidance of DUPA, (Drug Users and Parents Association which also included Doctors and Psychiatrists). Both Dr Glen Dettman and Dr Ian Dettman for many years helped treat numerous drug addicted people free of charge using the USA LIBBY Institute protocol which was well understood by DUPA.
In 1988, Ian sold the pathology service (Oakleigh Pathology) on behalf of his father (Dr Glen Dettman). He then commenced the first Integrative Pathology service in Australia called Medical Nutrition. This pathology specialised in comprehensive stool analysis, IgG4 testing, heavy metal testing, vitamin analysis, urinary Indican and Heidelberg pH gastric analysis. Unfortunately, due to internal industrial sabotage this business was closed but Dr Dettman, following careful consideration gave the Pathology free of charge to a close colleague who ensured its longevity and made it a major business success. In 1970 the early seeds of Biological Therapies commenced manufacturing numerous injectable vitamins, including Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate) and a range of Vitamin B's. The early development of this pharmaceutical manufacturing business in the premises of Oakleigh Pathology Service enabled Dr Ian Dettman to continue the growth of Biological Therapies in 1989 after the sad closure of the Integrative Pathology in 1988.
In November 1993 Ian was privileged and honoured to meet Professor Linus Pauling, (the only person in the world to have ever won two unshared Nobel prizes) at his home in Big Sur, California. Ian and Glen received a grant from the Linus Pauling Institute for a research project to test Vitamin C levels on new born babies delivered at a Community Hospital. Results were published in The Australian Nurses Journal.
In order for Biological Therapies to maintain it's fully accredited TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) sterile manufacturing licence, annual independent inspections are conducted by the TGA to ensure full compliance with the Internationally recognised TGA Australian version of the European PICS code of GMP. Biological Therapies is also licensed for a range of oral preparations including powders, capsules and oral solutions. Both safety and efficacy of Intravenous Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate) have been evaluated through publication of a number of case histories (xxxxxx) and several published and ongoing clinical trials including sepsis, cancer and covid (xxxxxx). Biological Therapies has never had an adverse drug reaction registered with the TGA since it's inception in 1992, nor has ever had a product recall which is an exceptional record of safety.
