Dr Mel Sydney-Smith is a director and medical practitioner of the Holistic Medical Centre Pty Ltd in Doolandella, Brisbane, where he conducts a private consultant practice in clinical nutrition and preventive medicine. His practice reflects a commitment to a holistic framework of health and encompasses other therapeutic modalities such as psychotherapy, acupuncture, herbal medicine and massage therapy.

Clientele includes significant members and families of the business and legal communities who are influential in the development of the political and cultural climate both within Australia and on an international level.

Dr Sydney-Smith has been heavily involved in the postgraduate education of medical and paramedical health practitioners in Australia and Asia, focusing on the clinical application of nutrition in the remediation of disease and maintenance of health.

He is currently involved in the development and delivery of clinical postgraduate workshops in Nutrition Medicine for medical and paramedical health practitioners and is an Accredited Provider in the QA&CPD program for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners..

He composed, developed and taught the Graduate Diploma in Health Science (Nutrition Medicine) award, offered by the University of New England, Armidale, NSW, in a joint venture contract with the Australian College of Holistic Medicine. This graduate diploma program has now relocated to RMIT University, Melbourne, and launched in 2005 as an integral part of the Master of Nutrition Medicine degree.
